Best Tools to Track Brand Mentions in ChatGPT

ChatGPT has become a discovery channel. When someone wants a software recommendation, a product comparison, or a solution to a business problem, they often ask ChatGPT before they run a Google search. If your brand appears in those answers, you get in front of buyers at a high-intent moment. If it does not, you miss them entirely.

So, how to track this? You cannot see how often your brand gets mentioned, how it is described, or whether you appear more often or a few times.

You need the best tool to track brand mentions in ChatGPT to do this. And the best tools are either free or come at a fixed price. We have covered both free and paid tools for monitoring real-time brand mentions.

Do You Really Need a Tool?

Yes! Asking ChatGPT about your brand once or twice tells you almost nothing useful. You get one answer, in one session, at one point in time. ChatGPT answers vary by wording, context, and even sessions.

There is also a scope problem. ChatGPT does not show you global data. You only see the answer your session produced. So, you can never know how ChatGPT will respond to the hundreds of different ways your customers might search for you or the problems you solve.

AI visibility tools solve this by running a predefined list of prompts regularly, recording whether your brand appears, tracking how it is described, and showing changes over time. That turns a one-off experiment into a real monitoring workflow. Without them, you are just guessing.

How ChatGPT Brand Tracking Tools Work

Most brand tracking tools follow the same basic approach.

First, you define a list of realistic user questions. These might be category questions, such as “What is the best project management software for small teams?” or comparison questions, such as “How does Tool A compare to Tool B?” These are similar to what real buyers actually search.

Next, you send these prompts to a brand mention checker tool that sends them further to ChatGPT, either through the interface or via the API. It collects responses and records whether your brand appears, where it appears in the answer, how it is described, and, sometimes, which sources or web pages are cited alongside it.

At the end, you get a report that shows your AI visibility score across the prompt set, with trends over time as you run the same prompts again.

How to Track Brand Mentions in ChatGPT for Free

Before you subscribe to AI visibility tools, give a nice try to these free ways to track brand mentions in an AI search engine (this works for Perplexity and Gemini too).

• Check Manually

Open ChatGPT and ask a set of questions relevant to your brand: category questions, problem-based questions, and competitor comparison questions. Copy the answers into a spreadsheet, note whether each mentions your brand (if it does), and check where it appears and how. Repeat this every two to four weeks.

• Pros: Zero cost, no setup, immediate.
• Cons: Time-consuming, inconsistent, easy to let slide, no trend data unless you are disciplined with logging, and one person’s session does not represent what other users see.

This free method for checking brand mentions in ChatGPT is a good starting point for a small brand or a team that wants to understand the basics before committing to a paid tool.

• Use Ahrefs Free AI Visibility Tool

Ahrefs is the best tool to track brand mentions in ChatGPT because it’s free. Enter your domain or brand name and get a snapshot report with an AI visibility score and a list of AI platforms that talk about your brand

It is not a complete monitoring platform. You do not get ongoing tracking or a prompt history. But it is useful for a first check and for benchmarking against competitors before you decide how much to invest.

4 Best Paid AI Visibility Tools That Are Worth Your Money

You might be trying hard to rank in ChatGPT search, but if you don’t track it, all your efforts will be wasted.

1. GenRank (ChatGPT First GEO)

GenRank positions itself as the original rank tracker, built exclusively around ChatGPT rather than spreading thin across every AI platform.

Key features

• Monitor real-time brand mentions in ChatGPT
• Timeline visualization to see trends over weeks or months
• Competitor benchmarking within the same responses
• Citation tracking for when ChatGPT links to external sources
• CSV export for reporting

Pricing: Free plan with no credit card required. Paid tiers are with a defined GEO strategy, and an agency or enterprise tier for full customization.

Pros:

• ChatGPT-only focus keeps the tool fast and focused.
• Free plan is real, not a crippled demo.
• Stores full response text so you can audit exactly what ChatGPT said.
• Good for brands proving GEO value before committing to a larger budget.

Cons:

• No tracking of brand mentions in Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, or other AI platforms.
• Not the right choice for agencies managing clients across different AI discovery channels.

Best for: SaaS brands and digital companies.

2. Keyword.com AI Rank Tracker

Keyword.com is a well-established SEO rank tracker that added an AI Visibility module in 2025. The core product tracks traditional Google keyword rankings with updates available daily or even bi-hourly. The AI add-on layers ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Mistral, DeepSeek, and Claude onto the same dashboard.

Key features:

• AI visibility tracking across seven engines, including ChatGPT
• Full response snapshots with source citation
• Competitor visibility comparison
• White-label reports
• Shareable dashboards
• Google Search Console integration

Pricing: The basic plan starts at $7 per month with the AI Visibility add-on. Its dedicated AI visibility tool is slightly expensive, priced at $39/month. There’s a 14-day free trial on paid plans.

Pros:

• One of the best tools to track brand mentions in ChatGPT at a low price.
• Combining traditional SEO rankings with AI visibility in one dashboard is genuinely useful for SEO teams.
• The credit-based model keeps costs low for light users who run a small prompt list weekly.

Cons:

• Credits burn fast when tracking multiple engines or running frequent refreshes.
• Agencies monitoring many brands and many prompts across several engines will see costs climb quickly.
• The AI module reviews are still relatively thin compared to the well-documented core rank tracker.

Best for: SEO teams already using Keyword.com who want to add AI visibility without managing a separate tool. Not the best fit for agencies with large, multi-brand, multi-engine monitoring needs.

3. SE Ranking AI Visibility Tracker

SE Ranking is a widely used all-in-one SEO platform used by over 1.5 million professionals. Its AI visibility offering comes in two forms: an AI Search Toolkit add-on to the main SE Ranking platform, and SE Visible.

Key features:

• Prompt-level brand tracking, mention, and link analysis
• Share of Voice across prompts
• Daily updates with historical snapshots
• Sentiment tracking
• Competitor benchmarking
• Citation source analysis showing which domains fuel AI answers
• Pre-grouped prompt templates by niche to reduce setup time

Pricing: $129 monthly for the core plan that lets you track 5 domains, 10 projects, and 100 prompts. $239 per month for multi-client SEO and GEO. The annual plan saves you 20% on both plans.

Pros:

• Strong integration with the SE Ranking.
• SEO suite means AI visibility data sits next to content, keyword, and backlink data.
• Citation source analysis is one of the most actionable features in this category.
• No limit on keyword, backlink, and competitor research.
• Work across all popular AI search engines.

Cons:

• Weekly tracking cadence on some plans may be too infrequent for teams in fast-moving categories.
• Not ideal for teams that do not already use SE Ranking and want a simpler standalone AI visibility tool.

Best for: In-house SEO and content teams already in the SE Ranking ecosystem who want AI visibility integrated into their existing workflow. Less practical for teams that want broad AI engine coverage right now without waiting for the product roadmap to mature.

4. Otterly AI

Otterly AI brand visibility tool launched in 2024 and grew to over 20,000 users within its first year, earning recognition as a Gartner Cool Vendor in 2025. It is purpose-built for AI search monitoring and GEO, covering ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Microsoft Copilot, and Google AI Mode in one platform.

Key features:

• Automated daily prompt monitoring across six AI platforms
• Full response capture with historical versioning
• Link Citations Analysis showing which domains and pages earn AI citations
• Brand Visibility Index as a single trackable KPI
• GEO Audit with SWOT analysis and gap recommendations
• Competitor benchmarking
• Semrush integration and CSV export

Pricing: Lite plan at $29 per month for 15 search prompts. Standard plan at $189 per month for 100 search prompts. Premium plan at $489 per month for 400 search prompts.

Pros:

• The budget-friendly AI brand monitoring tool.
• GEO Audit goes beyond monitoring to tell you what to fix and why.
• Semrush integration is unique and useful for teams already on that platform.
• Users on G2 consistently cite meaningful time savings and ease of setup.

Cons:

• Prompt-based pricing means costs scale with your monitoring scope.
• Agencies running multiple brands with large prompt sets will find costs climb quickly at higher tiers.
• Some platforms, like Google AI Mode, are charged as add-ons rather than included by default.
• The user review base is still growing, so long-term track records are limited compared to more established tools.

Best for: Agencies and multi-brand teams that need one dashboard to track AI visibility across multiple engines and want to move from monitoring into active optimization. Also, a strong choice for any team that wants the lowest possible entry cost to test AI visibility tracking before committing to a larger platform.

Quick Comparison: Free vs Paid ChatGPT Brand Tracking Tools

Free tools for brand monitoring are good for getting started and for one-time checks. To monitor real-time brand mentions in ChatGPT, trust the paid tools.

How to Analyze Brand Mentions in ChatGPT

What to do with all the data you collected from the AI brand visibility tool? A list of mentions is not useful on its own. You need to look at it through a few specific lenses.

• Check Mention Frequency And Consistency

How often does your brand appear across the prompt set? A brand appearing in 60 percent of relevant prompts is in a very different position from one appearing in 10 percent. Watch whether that number is rising, falling, or flat over time. A sudden drop often signals a content gap that a competitor has filled, or a sourcing shift in how ChatGPT pulls information.

• Look Where Your Brand is Mentioned

Not all mentions carry the same weight. Being the first brand named in a recommendation is very different from appearing as the fifth option at the bottom of a list. Track where your brand consistently appears in responses, and if it does not rank well, understand why ChatGPT is mentioning competitors instead. Tools like GenRank and Otterly AI help you understand this. They are one of the best tools to monitor brand mentions in ChatGPT and compare your position over time.

• How Your Brand is Described

This is often the most revealing part of the analysis. Does ChatGPT describe your product accurately? Is the pricing correct? Are the use cases it attributes to you the ones you actually want to own? Inaccurate or outdated descriptions can actively hurt conversion if a buyer arrives at a demo call with wrong expectations. Flag any descriptions that need correction and trace them back to the content or sources ChatGPT cites.

• Which Sources Are Being Cited

When ChatGPT cites a link alongside your brand mention, that source is doing some of the credibility work for you. If competitor brands are consistently cited from G2, a major industry publication, or a trusted comparison site where you have no presence, that is a concrete content and PR gap. Building or strengthening your presence on those specific sources is more meaningful than a broad content push.

• What is the Competitor Share Of Voice

Look at who appears in the same answers as your brand, and who appears on the prompts where you are absent. If a competitor consistently appears first across your highest-intent prompts, study what they have that you do not. Often, it is a stronger review profile, better coverage on third-party sites, or a comparison page that directly answers the prompt better than your content does.

• Check Gaps in Prompt

Sort your prompt list by the ones where your brand never appears. Those are your clearest opportunities. They represent buying-journey questions that real users are asking, where you have no AI presence at all. Each one is a content brief waiting to be written.

Conclusion

The shift from Google-first discovery to AI-first discovery is already underway. The question for most marketing teams is not whether to track ChatGPT visibility, but where to start.

If you have never checked your AI visibility score before, start with the Ahrefs free brand mention checker or run a manual prompt audit this week. It takes less than an hour and gives you a real baseline. If the data shows meaningful gaps, that is your signal to move to a dedicated tool.

The category is still young, prices are dropping, and features are improving fast. Pick a tool, run your first prompt list, and treat what you find as the starting point, not the final answer.

FAQs

Can any tool see every question people ask about my brand in ChatGPT?

No tool has access to global ChatGPT query data. Tools run a defined prompt list and sample what ChatGPT says in response. They give you a representative picture, not a complete one.

How many prompts should I monitor?

Start with 20 to 50 prompts that cover your category, your top use cases, and your main competitors. Expand from there as you learn which prompts are most relevant to your buyers.

How often should I run my prompt list?

Once or twice a month is enough for most teams. Weekly runs make sense if you are in a fast-moving category or actively working to improve your AI visibility.

What should I do if my brand never appears?

Start by checking whether the prompts are realistic. Then audit your content. ChatGPT tends to mention brands that have strong content on trusted sites, clear positioning, and good coverage in reviews and comparisons. Improving those areas is the foundation of better AI visibility.

Are these tools worth the cost?

That depends on how important AI discovery is to your funnel. If a meaningful share of your buyers are using ChatGPT before they visit your site, then yes, knowing whether and how you appear there is worth paying for.
